I really like how Jason Travis creates this image and how he displays small belongings which reflect the persons personality. The background of the images suggest it has been taken in a park. In my opinion this is very effective in showing the girls personality and interests. The small bag suggest the belongings being shown is what she would carry around with her when she goes out to play. It appears that natural lighting has been used to create these image, I think this helps to create a very calm atmosphere. I like how the belongings are positioned and I feel it is very eye pleasing the way in which they are all in line and positioned. Also I think the position of the girl is very affective and I like the way in which her hair is wind swept helping to show this idea that the images were taken outside. I think by showing these belongings as shown above within the setting (a park) helps to show the girls interests because you see the belongings which she would normally carry around with her when she goes out play.

I created this image within my second shoot, which was actually inspired by Jason Travis. The person within the photograph is me, I used a tripod and time delay to take the image. I chose an interesting back ground which displayed depth of field due to the hobby which I was displaying. I like how this shows a variety of colours and textures within the image which could be a variety of places to take images relating to the hobby being shown through the possessions in the image. I took the bottom image within the studio. I like the positioning of the items as they are very organised showing how much care they have for their equipment.

CONNECTING THE PHOTOGRAPHS

Both images are in the same style. These two images link because of the way in which one image is influenced by the other. I like how Diptych has been used by both the images. Diptych has also been used in a different format compared to what is normally expected, Diptych are normally showing two images positioned next to each other however these show one images placed underneath the other. I think this shows how the person within the top image of the Diptych has possession over the items displayed within the bottom image reflecting how the items are under their control.

This animation is from Jim Goldmen's relics of technology series. I like how this image shows a past possessions which some had. I think this animation has been put together well and has a smooth transition between each frame. Producing a realistic image of how the old project would have been used and played. This projector consists of dark grey's and blacks however colour is brought to the image through the pale blue background. The background helps to show the project more clearly and enhance the movement of the object compared to what a black or white background would. 

OWN PHOTOGRAPH

I took three images for the record player, each time moving the record slightly round. I then adjusted them within Photoshop to create the following animation. I like how the movement is displayed within the image. I like how this images shows a past possession which at one point meant a lot to someone. The up coming generation may be clueless about what a record player is and how it works. Therefore, I think it is interesting how the animation allows people to see how it would set up and how it would work.



CONNECTING THE IMAGES



In my opinion the two images connect because of the way animation is used to display how an old item is used/functions. I find it interesting how possessions over different generations have changed and how an item which once meant so much to someone now has very little important or value within their life. The first image was by Jim Goldmen, he inspired me to create the images I did for my third shoot within my exam which is where my image that I  spoke about above is from. Therefore, the images link due to how one image was influenced by the other. 

Connecting Essay Two

This image was created by Jess Morgan, I think it is an interesting piece which shows a relationship between possibly two siblings. The little boy is showing his sister the flower from the plant. This represent their innocence and purity. I think this image shows how us sibling help shape us and help us grow and develop through their increased understanding and different views on life. The boy is shown to be older than the girl and showing her something innocent within the world I think this shows how older brothers can be protective and hide their young siblings from the harsh reality and let them believe in a perfect world.

Although the image to the right does not clearly represent the exact relationship between the two men when I took the image they gave me the impression that they was brothers. Under this assumption I think this image shows how siblings relationships develop and how it can go from fighting over a toy to sharing lunch during their breaks at work. Demonstrating how relationships change as we grow and how we develop as people and mature. I also think this image shows how we pick up habits which are sibling has because of how both men appear to have positioned their legs the same way.

CONNECTING THE IMAGES 

In my opinion these images connect due to the way in which they both represent a relationship between two sibling. I think the images placed together show the development of relationships and how people grow and bond with their family. I think a strong contrast is shown by how the background changes from a colourful field to a city surrounding, enhancing this idea of change and growth. 

Connecting Essay One

The above image was taken by the photographer Tobias Lang, a photographer which I previously researched. I really like how the natural lighting has been incorporated within this image to enhance the nature shape of the women's face and the colours within the image. The images shows a women who is very passionate about her car, I gathered this interpretation from the expression on her face. A car is a very large and valuable possession which requires a lot of money and responsibility. I think this image is intriguing as it contrasts an old stereotype of men and cars and how they are a man's beloved possession. The strong contrast of this stereotype is produced from the lack of a male and focus on the female model as well as the image being taken from the outside of the car.

OWN PHOTOGRAPHY

This image was taken from my 8th shoot where I captured people and their desired form of transport. I like how this image shows the person within their car. The man is very relaxed, I think this shows the freedom which comes from having a car. This idea of freedom when owning a car is because you can travel and get to places on a time schedule which suites you, you are no longer restricted by bus times or train delays. 

CONNECTING THE IMAGES

The two following images both show an outside view of a person within their car. Although the background and setting of both images are different I think these images link through the sense of freedom and joy a car can bring. Both images have used natural lighting to their advantage to help produce interesting aspects of the photographs. The glare/shine displayed on the car within my own image and the shine on the women's chest in the first image by Tobias Lang.

Work Diary- Shoot 9(Lack of possessions)

PLANS AND PROGRESSION

For this shoot I wish to develop from showing what people have to show what people lack. I hope to produce a selection of images which display peoples lack of possessions. I will do this by showing street artists who are trying to earn money through a particular skill they have. Many people do this as they have no other form of income and need to feed themselves or their families. I think this is an interesting way to show People and Possessions as it is showing the possessions which they lack and I believe a stable job/career could be viewed as a possession.

EVALUATIONS

I took this image to demonstrate lack of possessions as it shows a man performing to a crowd for money. I like how this image shows a man who is equally as capable as many other dancers who earn a lot of money within their industry, however he is having to take to the street to make ends meet. To me this is a very powerful image which make me think about how persistent people are in making their dreams come true. To capture this image I used the following camera settings, ISO 100, f/8, with a stutter speed of 1/2000 seconds  and a focal length of 55.0 mm. I think I could have improved this image taking more images of the man at different stages of his performance and create an animation from them. Although no animation is used within this image, I think there is a clear sense of movement displayed within this image. Overall, I am pleased with this image and how the image suggests the man has a crowd surrounding him.

This image is very different to the rest of the photographs within my shoot, however I included it with my images for this shoot as I felt it was a very powerful image which represented a lack of possessions or a loss of possessions. One interpretation of this image could be that this is a wardrobe of a person who has passed away and their belongings have been removed. I gathered this judgment from the lack of belongings along with the background of the wardrobe as it appears to be very old fashioned and designed for an old lady, suggesting it was a recently deceased old lady's wardrobe.  I think this interpretation is highlighted because of  black and white filter placed on the image. I turned this image into black and white by a simple adjustment within Photoshop. I done this as the lighting from the room produced a very yellow toned image which was not very eye pleasing. I felt that the black and white filter produced a much more intense and meaningful image with a sad atmosphere. The camera was set to the following setting for this particular image, 1/40 seconds, ISO 200, f/4 with a focal length of 27.0mm. I tried taking this image with and without a flash, however both images involved unappealing yellow tones. 

PROGRESSION 

Although this is the last shoot for my unit 4 (not including my exam), I think this is an interesting topic which I started to explore and would explore in more depth if not limited by time. I like the two different concepts which I involved within this shot. This shoot made me look and think about peoples current positions and make a judgment as to whether the person is on the street performing because they enjoy it or they have no other option, I found this more difficult than I original thought. I think this shoot has opened my eyes to see how we can not understand someone's life or situation just from looking at them and the clothes they have on their backs.
